Story of Lionel Messi

At the age of five, Messi started playing for his father's local club, Grandoli. When he was eight, he was playing for Newell's Old Boys. This team is incredibly talented, as evidenced by the fact that they only lost one game over the next four years.

Unfortunately, Messi was diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency at the age of eleven. Despite his talent, the local club didn't help him. That's when Carles Rexach, FC Barcelona's sporting director, stepped in. He promised that he would pay for Messi's medical bills as long as he moved to Spain. So Messi enrolled in Barcelona's youth academy.

In 2000, Messi entered the La Masia youth academy. In 2004, Messi signed a professional contract with FC Barcelona. In 2009, Messi helped Barcelona crown the six crowns and won the Ballon d'Or for the first time. In 2011, Messi helped Barcelona crown the five crowns. In 2012, Messi set a new football natural-year scoring record with 91 official game goals and won the Ballon d'Or for the fourth consecutive year. In 2015, Messi once again helped Barcelona to be crowned five crowns, and personally won the Ballon d'Or for the fifth time. In 2019, Messi won the Ballon d'Or for the sixth time. In August 2021, Messi freely joined Paris Saint-Germain; in November, Messi won the Ballon d'Or for the seventh time.

Following confirmation of Messi's departure from PSG in June, 2023, he was linked with a return to former club Barcelona, as well as with a big-money move to Saudi Professional League club Al-Hilal, but eventually he decided to sign for Major League Soccer club Inter Miami with the signing of Messi on a two-and-a-half-year contract on 15 July 2023.

During the 2024 season, Messi broke the record for the most assists in a single MLS game with five assists and he also broke the record for the most goal contributions in an MLS game with six in a 6–2 win over the New York Red Bulls.

On 2 October, Messi scored a brace in a 3–2 win over Columbus Crew, clinching the Supporters' Shield, his 46th trophy.

In the final game of the regular season on 19 October against New England Revolution, Messi scored his first hat-trick for the club in a 6–2 victory.  Inter Miami's victory over the Revolution also allowed the club to finish with 74 points throughout the regular season, a league record for MLS.  He would finish the regular season with 20 goals and 16 assists in 19 matches. In doing so, he became Inter Miami's all-time leading goalscorer.
